Hello World

Welcome to my Blood Bowl homepage. This site is dedicated to the tabletop Blood Bowl published by Games Workshop. Everything I’ve painted, created, or simply wanted to share with the world related to this great game can be found here. I can assure you that this site does not contain AI slop. It is a documentation of my hobby journey, so including AI content is not part of the concept. This site is deliberately designed as an old-school 90s-style HTML page for nostalgic reasons. No clickbait, no e-begging, no cookies, no advertising, no doomscroling, no nothing. Just enjoy the Internet like it's 1998 again for a brief moment. I hope you like it. Feedback is always welcome! You can send it to joerg@cheapoldwargamer.com

What is Blood Bowl?

Blood Bowl is a strategy tabletop about (American) football set in the fantasy world of Warhammer. It was first released by Games Workshop in 1986 and it is now (2026) in its 6th edition. And, most importantly, it is the greatest game ever released by them! “Isn’t that Warhammer 40,000?” you might ask. No, not even close. Blood Bowl is in my opinion better in nearly every aspect, aside from maybe the depth of the lore. But why is it so great, and why is this site dedicated to it?

The Rules

Blood Bowl boils down to a strategy game, where the challenge comes from positioning your figures (called "players") on the board (called "pitch") and manage probabilities. The goal is to force your opponent, through positioning your players, to make dice rolls with a bad probability of successes. You on the other hand, have to play in such a way, that your dice rolls have a favorable probability or you don’t have to roll at all. There are other elements too, like team management, but this is the core game mechanic. This alone gives Blood Bowl more tactical depth than Warhammer 40.000 in my opinion. But what really set this game apart from other strategy tabletops is the so called “turnover” game mechanic. This means, whenever you fail a dice roll, your turn is over and your opponents turn start. This makes every dice roll high stakes and keeps you on the edge of your seat, even when it’s not your turn. Another great feature is, that because of the way ball possession is altering between touchdowns (the scoring in the game), the game is often exciting to the last turn. This is noteworthy, because most strategy games have a clear winner relatively early on in the game.
