Background:At the fringes of the Old World stand ancient, arcane portals — forgotten relics of the mysterious Old Ones. These gateways are conduits to the mystical Warp, the source of the magical winds that sweep across the world. On a long forgotten planet, far removed from the Old World in both time and space, a brutal war once raged. The brave Space Marines, defenders of humanity, fought valiantly against the unrelenting forces of Chaos. In a final act of desperation, the servants of darkness unleashed a catastrophic spell upon the battlefield, one so powerful it tore through reality itself, dragging both ally and enemy into the swirling madness of the Warp. Whether by chance or the will of a malevolent god, a number of these warriors were cast out of the Warp. They emerged, disoriented but unharmed, from the northern portal of the Old World. Confused and filled with lingering hatred, they resumed their endless war, until the locals introduced them to the teachings of Nuffle and the great game of Blood Bowl. At first, especially the loyal Space Marines, resisted the idea. But over time, even the most devoted warriors came to embrace the sport. With their genetically enhanced bodies, advanced reflexes, and insatiable drive for victory, they were born for it. Now, though rare, Space Marine teams have become a part of the Blood Bowl universe. Scattered and stranded across the Old World, only a handful remain, and sightings of their matches are legendary. When they do appear on the pitch, it's nothing short of a spectacle. |
Rationale:Space Marines in Blood Bowl? What is this some kind of sick joke? Yes. Yes it is - so calm down my friend. There’s really no reason to play Space Marines in Blood Bowl, other than the fact that just about everyone has a bunch of Space Marine miniatures lying around. Might as well put them to use, right? And notice, by the way: there are no Primaris Marines mentioned in the lore. That’s not an accident. They weren’t sucked into the Warp and they’re strictly forbidden from being fielded. Don’t even think about it. The main problem with a Space Marine team is that, lore-wise, they’re way too good at everything. To balance that, you’ll need to include a good number of non-Space Marines as linemen. I chose Scouts, essentially regular Human Linemen. Maybe one could give them Thick Skull. When it comes to the actual Marines, I focused on their resilience. Skills like Stand Firm feel very fitting. Sure, combat abilities like Block would make sense too, but give them those, and they become too strong and too expensive. One way to justify the lack of combat skills is that they’re new to the sport. They need time to get the hang of it. I made passing difficult for them, not because they’re bad throwers, but because I imagine those giant shoulder pads get in the way. The Terminator fills the team’s “big guy” role. I only gave him Strength 4, because in the end, he’s still just a Marine, just in much heavier armor. His real strength lies in durability and sheer intimidation. And the Mighty Blow of course. So yes - Space Marines in Blood Bowl are a a joke. But they’re also a lot of fun. And who wouldn’t want to see a genetically engineered super soldier fail a dodge roll and get fouled by a Goblin? |
